Professional Wakeboarding Returns to Orlando as The Air Nautique Wake Games 2007 Season Kicks Off.
Orlando, FL – After a one-year absence, professional wakeboarding is returning to the city that many consider the capital of the sport: Orlando, Florida. World Sports & Marketing has announced the city will kick off the 2007 professional season with the Air Nautique Wake Games. A unique wakeboarding event that ties pros and amateurs together in a team concept, the Air Nautique Wake Games is set for April 26-29, 2007, at the Orlando Watersports Complex.
Orlando has a rich history of hosting major wakeboarding events from the Pro Wakeboard Tour to the World Championships, and in 2007, the Air Nautique Wake Games should fit in that tradition. “When we were looking at the pro circuit schedule for this year, and put Orlando in the mix, we decided to make the biggest splash possible for the city and kick off the entire season with one of our newer events. Wake Games fits that bill,” said Sean Dishman, sales and marketing director.
In addition to its rich history of hosting events, Orlando is home to many of today’s top stars. The 2006 Pro Wakeboard Tour champion, Danny Harf, is from the city, along with Andrew Adkison, who won his second world title earlier this year. Another top star, Phillip Soven from Longwood, will be looking to repeat, as he won the last championship to be held in Orlando, the pro tour stop here in April of 2005.
It will be a special homecoming for Dallas Friday, the premier woman rider in the world. Friday was severely injured this fall while riding in an international competition. She has since returned to the States for rehabilitation, and she hopes to be able to compete in Orlando.
The Air Nautique Wake Games also is the first event in the 2007 King of Wake series. King of Wake is a season-long points chase in the top ten events on the professional circuit. The dash to be the world’s number one rider features a $10,000 bonus for the winner.
The Super Air Nautique by Correct Craft is the exclusive tow boat of the Wake Games. Celebrating more than 80 years of excellence in the marine industry, Correct Craft is a family-owned manufacturer of internationally acclaimed competition-caliber water-ski and wakeboard boats as well as boats for recreational enjoyment. Correct Craft Inc. is known for superior-quality products, cutting-edge technology and innovative hull designs.
The official magazine of the Air Nautique Wake Games is Wake Boarding, the premier publication for the sport. Wake Games also has the support of the following sponsors: U.S. Air Force, Circuit City, Fox, Hyperlite Wakeboards, Gator Boards, CWB, Oakley, Reef, Wakeworld.com, and Wakeboarder.com.
