Tabron and Burnquist Take Home First-Ever Wins at Dew Action Sports Tour’s Panasonic Open

Sheckler Captures Skateboard Park Title for Second Consecutive Time at Dew Action Sports Tour's Panasonic Open

Adams and Napolitan Earn Their First Titles in FMX and BMX Dirt

June 25, 2006 - Louisville, Ky. - Simon Tabron won the BMX Vert competition and Bob Burnquist captured the Skateboard Vert title Sunday in the final day of competition at the Dew Action Sports Tour's season-opening Panasonic Open at the Kentucky Expo Center.

Tabron, 32, of Great Britain, successfully completed an alley oop no-handed 540, helping him earn a score of 94.75 during his first run to edge 2005 BMX Vert season champion Jamie Bestwick. Bestwick, 34, of Great Britain, came back after recent neck surgery to place second with a score of 93.50.  In third was 2005 runner up Kevin Robinson, 34, East Providence, R.I., who scored a 93.00 on his second run.

“I’m very grateful for this win to start off the season,” Tabron said. “I’ve been working hard and trying new things.”

In Skateboard Vert, Bob Burnquist, 29, of Brazil, claimed his first Dew Tour victory with a score of 92.00 on his first run. Burnquist finished the 2005 season in fourth place overall.  Placing second was Bucky Lasek, 33, of Baltimore, Md., last season’s Dew Action Sports Tour Skateboard Vert champion, with a score of 91.00. In third was Andy Macdonald, 32, of San Diego, Calif., at 88.25.

Highlighting Burnquist’s winning run was his execution of a switch backside air over the channel on the vert ramp.
"It feels great to finally come out on top,” Burnquist said. “Most of the time this doesn’t happen to me but I really felt solid today.  I had an image in my head of what I wanted.  So I have been working hard, adding more technical tricks and believed in myself."

Sunday’s competition concluded the first stop of the five-city Dew Action Sports Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross.  Other Panasonic Open winners included Scotty Cranmer, BMX Park; Anthony Napoliton, BMX Dirt; Nate Adams, Freestyle Motocross, and Ryan Sheckler, Skateboard Park.

The next stop on the Dew Action Sports Tour is the Right Guard Open in Denver, Colo., July 13-16.
