Brazil’s Sandro Dias Earns First-Ever Win on Dew Action Sports Tour

Portland, Ore. - August 19, 2006 - Portland, Oregon _ Sandro Dias won the Skateboard Vert competition while Ryan Sheckler triumphed in Skateboard Park Saturday at the Vans® Invitational, the third stop of the Dew Action Sports Tour, at the Rose Quarter. Today's victory marks Dias' first on the Dew Action Sports Tour.

Sandro DiasDias, 31, from Santo Andre, BRA, scored a 90.75 on his second run to win the title. He secured his win by performing a nose-grab 540 tailwhip in competition. Bucky Lasek, 33, of Baltimore, Md. took second place with a score of 89.25 while Jean Postec, 21, Annecy, FRA came in third with a score of 85.25.

Lasek, the 2005 Dew Cup winner in Skateboard Vert, continues to lead the season standings with 213 points. Today's win at the Vans Invitational moves Dias into second place with wake9 points, followed by Bob Burnquist, 29, of Rio de Janeiro, BRA, who sits in third with 164.

"This is my first place at the Dew Action Sports Tour, and I'm stoked, I'm so happy," said Dias. "I tried to stay relaxed, have a clear mind, and stay positive because skating is for fun."

Ryan ShecklerRyan Sheckler, 16, of San Clemente, Calif. took first place today in the Skateboard Park competition. Sheckler, the 2005 Dew Cup winner, earned a score of 90.17 with a run highlighted by a backside flip over the table during the second jam session. In second place was Jereme Rogers, 19, of Boston, Mass. with a score of 89.50. Greg Lutzka, 21, of Milwaukee, Wisc. placed third with a score of 87.17.

"I'm ecstatic," said Sheckler. "I can't believe I won again. I started skating when I was four and I've gotten to where I am today with a lot of practice, deination, wanting to win and just never giving up." Sheckler reclaimed first place in the season standing with today's win. He now has 255 points, Rogers sits in second with 238 and Nyjah Huston, 11 of Davis, Calif., is in third with 205.

The four-day competition is the third of five stops of the Dew Action Sports Tour that features skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross. Sunday's action includes Freestyle Motocross and BMX Park finals.
